Gregory is especially proud to see the firm’s work outlined against a city skyline. “Successful lobbying can change communities in a very positive way,” according to Gregory. “Capital outlay funding at Wayne State University in Detroit now produces cutting edge medical research. Tax credits transformed a blighted federal building in Grand Rapids into a school of design and a vacant power plant in Lansing into a national insurance company’s corporate headquarters.”   

Why is a native of rural Leelanau County in northern Michigan so interested in urban redevelopment? “A building lasts. It’s black and white rather than the usual gray of politics.”

With Michigan largely getting out of the tax credit business and tight budgets putting a strain on capital outlay, what’s next for Kelley Cawthorne? “Healthcare is still building facilities and adding jobs. Tourism and the Environment are more important – and intertwined- than ever thanks to the Pure Michigan campaign.”  

“Agriculture is Michigan’s number two (2) industry and still growing.  We have great Ag clients like GreenStone Farm Credit, the Michigan Wine Producers, and several others, but we also have room to grow,” said Gregory. “Besides, maybe it’s time to get back to my small town roots.”
